"Happy New Year to Everyone!

In a few hours we'll bid goodbye to 2011 and hopefully forget its tragedies, particularly the Sendong Experience.

It's time to reflect the goodness of the Lord and to thank His countless blessings.

For the victims, it may take years to recover from the trauma it has brought forth unequaled damage: physically, economically, emotionally etc, yet, I strongly believe that an overwhelming goodness will flow into Iligan, as He always promised.

It was a "storm" sent forth to wash out, cleanse and purge the corruption and greed and the evil that's rooted among us - from our leaders down to its constituents.

It was a wake-up call for us to take care of our environment, a detoxifying agent, a bittersweet pill for the moral and economic recovery/transformation of Iligan and its people; paving way for beautiful things to happen.

I can feel it blossoming in the overwhelming kindness, tinabangay (cooperation) and goodness of our citizens in our country and around the world as shown during the tragedy.

And hopefully, it will awaken our city officials of their main duty to serve the people, especially at these critical times, and, the sprouting abundantly of our talented intellectuals ready to help and lead Iligan in any way they can.

With high hopes, we cheer for a New year, a new life and a new Iligan!!!

(Arise Iligan!)

"The question for each man to settle is not what he would do if he had the means, time, influence and educational advantages, but what he will do with the things he has." ~Hamilton Wright Mabie

Going within, I touch the stillness and pure love that lie at the core of my being and every thought that I create is of benefit to myself and of benefit to humanity." ~Thought for Today-UK

Then you are able to encourage and uplift another soul caught in the storms of life." ~Lisa K. Fox

Caroline Kent
Courage is admitting that you're afraid and facing that fear directly. It's being strong enough to ask for help and humble enough to accept it.

Courage is being responsible for your own actions and admitting your own mistakes without placing blame on others. It's relying not on others for your success, but on your own skills and efforts.

Courage is daring to take a first step, a big leap, or a different path. It's attempting to do something that no one has done before and all others thought impossible.

Courage is keeping heart in the face of disappointment and looking at defeat not as an end but as a new beginning. It's believing that things will ultimately get better even as they get worse.

Courage is refusing to quit even when you're intimidated by impossibility. It's choosing a goal, sticking with it, and finding solutions to the problems.

Courage is standing up for what you believe in without worrying about the opinions of others. It's following your own heart, living your own life, and settling for nothing less than the best for yourself.

Courage is thinking big, aiming high, and shooting far. It's taking a dream and doing anything, risking everything, and stopping at nothing to it make it a reality." ~Caroline Kent~

Thought for Today - Working on Rebuilding Relationships

"It’s easy to speak negatively when we do not like something about someone. We often react without thinking and become angry. Our words and behaviour become negative or insulting. This further widens the gap damaging the relationship. When someone does something undesirable. I first need to understand the behaviour. Every person has a reason to behave the way he or she does even if I cannot understand it at the time. The more I react to the other person and the bad behaviour, the greater the distance between us. To mend the relationship I need to remind myself of the other person’s good qualities." ~Thought for Today-UK

Thought for Today - Trustee Consciousness

"We all have a relationship with everything. Obviously the relationship we have with the people and objects in our immediate vicinity is more intimate than the rest of the world. For most of us the most common relationship is possession. In our minds we think we own and possess things like cars and houses and carpets and golf clubs etc. This thinking easily spreads into jobs and tasks and positions and perhaps even other people. "I want you", and "You are mine alone", is the essence of many romantic film scripts and song lyrics. What we forget is that this relationship is wrong. It is not possible to possess anything. Care for..yes. Use...yes. But possess...no. You can't take it with you when you go, so we say! And yet it's the idea of possession which lies at the heart of all fear, war and conflict. Can you see it? Fear of loss, fear of not acquiring what we have already decided is ours in our minds. So what is a better relationship we can choose which takes all the fear away. Be a trustee. Everything comes to us in trust, for us to use and then to set it free. The consciousness of trustee sets us free of the tension of grasping and guarding. To see ourselves as trustees of everything that we receive, including our bodies, encourages our innate capacity to 'care for with dignity'. It is a much more relaxing way of relating to the things which we are privileged to receive in life." ~Thought for Today-UK

Thought for Today - Learn Meditation

"Why has meditation been the core practice of all wisdom paths for over two thousand years? Because it is the most effective method to access your innate wisdom, rediscover inner peace and enhance your creative ability. Meditation restores well being, and once your being is well again, all that you do will be successful and fulfilling. But maybe you think you are OK as you are. Perhaps you feel your being is well. But is it? Do you feel tense, worried, hopeless, mentally tired, emotionally upset...ever? Then your being is not well. Your body may be OK but you, the being, is unwell. Medication is for the body, and meditation is for the soul, that's you, and for your mind. Learning how to meditate is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself. Practising meditation says you care about yourself. Being in meditation can touch the minds and hearts of others a thousand miles away. It actually says that you care about others too. But first...your self." ~Thought for Today-UK

WILLIAM COWPER Quotes

Poor old Nancy, I've been told of late that she is now taking residence in a Nursing Home. This is one of the Roses she planted around the compound where I live. (Taken 17 December 2011)

"'Tis liberty alone that gives the flower Of fleeting life its lustre and perfume; And we are weeds without it."
~William Cowper on Liberty

Other Quotes:

"God moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform.
He plants his footsteps in the sea,
and rides upon the storm."
~William Cowper

"Knowledge is proud that it knows so much;
Wisdom is humble that it knows no more."
~William Cowper

"Not to understand
a treasure's worth
till time has stole away
the slighted good,
is cause of half
the poverty we feel,
and makes the world
the wilderness it is."
~William Cowper

“The faults of our neighbours
with freedom we blame,
But tax not ourselves,
though we practise the same.”
~William Cowper on Proverbs

“The path of sorrow,
and that path alone,
Leads to the lands
where sorrow is unknown.”
~William Cowper on Sorrow

"There is in souls a sympathy with sounds:
And as the mind is pitch'd the ear is pleased
With melting airs, or martial, brisk or grave;
Some chord in unison with what we hear
Is touch'd within us, and the heart replies."
~William Cowper

“Uncertainty and expectation are the joys of life. Security is an insipid thing.” ~William Cowper
"When we look back upon our forefathers, we seem to look back upon people of another nation, almost upon creatures of another species ... We can hardly believe it possible that a people who resembled us so little in their taste should resemble us in anything else.

"But in everything else, I suppose, they ever were our counterparts exactly; and time, that has served up the slashed sleeve and reduced the large trunk hose to a neat pair of silk stockings, has left human nature just where it found it.

"The inside of a man at least has undergone no change. His passion, appetites and aims are just what they ever were. They wear perhaps a handsomer disguise than they did in the days of yore, for philosophy and literature will have their effect upon the exterior; but in every other respect, a modern is only an ancient in a different dress." ~William Cowper, TFBFG 1998/mpw

Thought for Today - Flexibility

"With humility and love, flexibility becomes natural. When I come across someone who is not being co-operative I need to become humble and try to understand what the other person is communicating, If not through words at least through actions. When I am able to listen with love and understanding, I will not be rigid anymore but will be able to adapt to communicate and co-operate with others." ~Thought for Today-UK

“Oppression is often the consequence, but seldom or never the means of riches; and though avarice will preserve a man from being necessitously poor, it generally makes him too timorous to be wealthy.” ~Thomas Paine

“Perhaps the sentiments contained in the following pages, are not yet sufficiently fashionable to procure them general favour; a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.” ~Thomas Paine

“Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first a patron, the last a punisher.” ~Thomas Paine

Hither have they fled, not from the tender embraces of the mother, but from the cruelty of the monster; and it is so far true of England, that the same tyranny which drove the first emigrants from home, pursues their descendants still.” ~Thomas Paine
