It is a friend that stabs you in the back, as it did with the Philippines in 1986. …And that, we will never forget!." ~Gil Peralta, January 2020

"Our minds tell us, and history confirms, that the great threat to freedom is the concentration of power. Government is necessary to preserve our freedom, it is an instrument through which we can exercise our freedom; yet by concentrating power in political hands, it is also a threat to freedom. Even though the men who wield this power initially be of good will and even though they be not corrupted by the power they exercise, the power will both attract and form men of a different stamp." ~Milton Friedman

The role of the teacher is as a guide and enabler, and not a proselytizer. A teacher can state his or her position but only as a particular interpretation and should in no way be construed as the only interpretation." ~Antonio P. Contreras

“The great events of world history are, at bottom, profoundly unimportant. In the last analysis the essential thing is the life of the individual. This alone makes history, here alone do the great transformations first take place, and the whole future, the whole history of the world, ultimately spring as a gigantic summation from these hidden sources in individuals. They also say that man is the most intelligent — and the most superior — species on earth. This is also false. It is very arrogant to assume that we are the most intelligent species when we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. It has been shown that both rats and monkeys learn from making errors, yet we have not. Our history proves this. All creatures on earth have the capacity to love and grieve the same way we do. No life on the planet is more deserving than another. Those who think so, are the true savages.” ~Suzy Kassem, Rise Up and Salute the Sun.

"30 years after, the overwhelming feeling is one of betrayal and disillusionment. EDSA '86 is no longer the dream of peace and progress but the nightmare of corruption and apathy. RG San Luis Quotes

Leadership, Human Rights and Cause and Effect
The prevalence of corruption is also a human rights violation because it deprives the average citizen of the obligation that government is supposed to provide him which is basic services. If we protect the rights of the criminals in the minority, what will happen to the victims who are in the majority? Should we expect to live in fear because the criminal is still entitled to due process? What contributes to the proliferation of criminality? Drug use is one. Poverty is another. Isn't poverty an offshoot of corruption? There is always cause and effect. The denial of the existence of extreme measures needed to curb criminality and the drug menace smacks of hypocrisy. The Yellowtards and the Church scream justice and human rights violations but they always fail to proffer solutions. Which would you prefer to have in the society and the communities you live in is the operative question. Peace and order or rampant criminality? ~RG San Luis

What the public needs to realize is leadership requires tough decisions to be made for the greater good and not for what is generally acceptable as in observance of human rights. ~RG San Luis

"The yellows are playing a crucial role
In the development of our nation.
Without them we may become like the Israelites
Who grumbled at Moses after being saved from slavery
From the Egyptians and ended up carving
False gods for themselves and angering God.
The yellows keep us fighting for the truth.
They have made us love our country even more.
For every lie they tell,
They make us dig deeper for the truth.
For all the mockery they throw at our president,
They allow us to see him better than we did before.
For every destructive word they say about our country,
They make us plant our flag deeper into our hearts.
The yellows have managed to do
What no one else has ever been able to.
They have made us one.
So hug a yellow today and thank them
For making us united and strong."

"Watching, reading and listening to all my brothers and sisters sacrificing their time and effort, swallowing assaults from family and friends for their passion but never yielding to the pressure. .........I'm so overwhelmed by the rebirth of love for our nation. Let's not lose hope and keep this fire burning in our hearts. Let's all keep fighting till we're rid of all the ills that have plagued our nation." ~Jovybev Aquino, March 24, 2017

"What a beautiful day full of promise.
As we venture out into our daily grind, I cannot help but smile and be envigorated by this overwhelming hope that has surrounded this nation.
I've never been prouder than I am now. I may have lost many friends in the process of fighting for this great change, but I have also gained a multitude. I really don't mind that the people i used to look up to and even try to get confidence from are no longer giving me the time of day, because they have shown to me their true colors. A color that has no love for nation, a color filled with greed, a color filled with selfish pride, a color that has no empathy for the less fortunate. So, no it doesn't bother me one bit that I will never have to be associated with them any longer.
As we fight this battle, with the lines clearly drawn, I bring with me not the bolos nor the muskets used by our ancestors fighting the oppressors of their day, I bring with me insight and the power of our collective hopes and dreams. I bring with me the vision of a bright and prosperous future for my children and my children's children. So while the other side continues to spew contempt, vile propaganda and poisonous lies, I will keep my stance firmly on the ground ready to pounce at any adversary that threatens the future of our nation." ~Jovybev Aquino, 2017

"Your motherland is one of the most valuable things there is. It is your mother, your father, your siblings, your children, their children. It is the most precious thing you can ever claim as your own. It is irreplaceable. It is not something you can explain, you are connected to your motherland with your soul, your body, and your subconscious. Your motherland is family, your motherland birthed you from its soil. I will never sell you out, I will never abandon you!" ~Jovybev Aquino, 31 August 2017

The weirdly comforting smell of organic decay, lilies on the water, brilliant blue of the skies and the sea, warm breezes, pine trees, stretches of grasses, the call of fisher kings. "Someday, when great things has come to pass in the reshaping of a nation for so long shorn and shaven its full potential, allowing it at last to soar to heights it once thought elusive, we’ll all look back. The secret of starry nights is that it is magic in itself, a promise of spell binding beauty when darkness tries to swallow our part of the world. It is also when the most intimate and secret tendrils that curl through our minds become awash with the glow of starlight, some twining around the songs and tributes (or in this modern times, posts) that lifted our spirits. No wonder that the Greeks, on these warm and tender and diamond studded nights, named many constellations after their heroes. They didn’t forget the stars of course, immortalizing them with the characters worthy of the heroic standards of their days too. These twinkling lights deserve it, for theirs is the promise that after the dazzle of the sun flaming red then dying at the end of the day, the canvass of the night holds promise for a sight that is balm for soul." ~George Daniel Anos, The 89th Constellation, 13 February 2017 via collective.com.ph

"... someday when the era of the Eagle of the South comes to an end, ushering forth a new Philippines where ‘hope’, ‘change’, and ‘awakening’ falls easy from everyone’s lips, when the despair that has shackled the powerless and the disinherited vanishes, the heroes of that period will be inevitably immortalized as well. And when, as a part of the poem by Walter de La Mare goes:” silence surged softly backward when the plunging hoofs were gone,” these warriors, whose selfless and courageous dedication in the forefront of the battles that won the war, will earn their rightful place. Ever so brightly will they blaze in the grand pantheon of stars marking a nation’s historic turning point. From there, they will grace the night sky above an archipelago of seven thousand one hundred seven islands given a chance of rebirth, all because one man took it upon himself to spend his twilight years to, in borrowing from the words of Sir Mark Lopez, “with uncanny and unorthodox ways, unburden a nation.”
And that is why all of them will make up the brilliance of a constellation that will bear the name:
“DUTERTUS.”

The Line is straight, the line is firm,
Staring dead ahead they never squirm,

Through whatever elements be that day,

One battlecry, together they shout and pray,

"The fight will never end in vain or be done,
As long as the LONG BLUE LINE stands as ONE..."
~A tribute to the spirit of BROTHERHOOD and CAMARADERIE, a distinguishing benchmark of the PHILIPPINE MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY.

"Defying the Elements"

Rocks and granite under the sun's tenacity,
Laurels and moss hurdling rains' animosity.
Unfolding their glory under adversity

welcome to the world!
Tomorrow begins your send offs,

How can you find your way,
If you'll see the day just the same,
as that day when you chose to stay,
on what you know breaks you,
but raises you up just the same?"

I thank you for the freedom when it came my time to go

ONCE AGAIN

Once you said

you'd touch my soul,
to mend the cracks

and make it whole.
.

But in the course
of our lives' crossing,

the eyes that have
been
used to crying,
.

the heart that broke

in countless ways,

the life that has

seen better days,
.

I thought would have

a new beginning,

turned out it was

a new way of dying.

"Sometimes I wonder why certain
kinds of love even existed,
how they could even have come
into being in the first place.

Why can't hearts just find the
right fit with the right one, like
the diurnal cycle of the sun,
fixed even as seasons turn."

THE BREAKING
By George Daniel Anos

The roses fell from her hands that night. And on the whole of that day there, it lay, shriveling under the onslaught of the sun, cringing from the exhaust of passing cars, withering from the assault of the pavement’s heat.

He picked it up before meeting her, for the path that leads to where they meet, is also the path to follow before separation at the crossroads.

“Why’d you left it on the ground when it fell?” he asked her, visibly hurt.

“Maybe I just want you to pick it up and give it back” she answered.

“What if instead of giving it back to you I decide to give it to someone else?”

“I know there’s a chance of that happening. You see, I already took off all the thorns. That way, she won’t get hurt the way I did.”

She smiled.

He was broken. 💔

"The dusky roll of day

into the blanket of the night.

The roars of thunderous hearts

and lights wispy glow,

as a sight on the horizon lay
splendid in delight,

suffusing weary parts
of life's..... ebb and flow."

TO WRITE

By George Daniel Anos

A poem is the easiest thing to write

You start with a kiss then end with a bite

Begin naively then end with a twist

The beat of your words should hit like a fist
You put together the sinews that bind,
scars of the heart and the weights of the mind
Share wonders of joy with life's bitter pain

All things fought under the sun and the rain
To hear from one's self the yearning to show,
from yonder and near,
what it takes to know

This calling must turn brave warriors to bard,
all those who endured,
and pushed back real hard
The world will then choose from these hardened knights,
with ashes and blood they'll easily write.

Published in YOU BLEED, launched 19 August 2017

"When all my faith,
can fit within,
a pocketful of dreams.
And all my hopes,
have been sent high,
and flown by Angel wings.
Then see the truths,
I dearly held,
to be not what they seemed.
It's then I know,
that I will find,
the message wisdom brings."
~George Daniel Anos

"When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie,
every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?"

"A plant needs to do more than stretch its leaves toward the sun. It also needs to send down roots deep into the ground. Write the truest sentence that you know.' So finally I would write one true sentence, and then go on from there.” ~Ernest Hemingway

Dreams of gloried past,
The aged glow,
The colored mast,
Lying low,
Raising fast,
But we will show,
As shadows cast,
We will throw,
All doubts- AVAST*,

Surely they MUST,
Glories DO NOT FADE…

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Social grace is not ......, sugar-coating words that ingratiate. It is knowing what is right, and acting on it without calling attention to one's self.

"I believe that the free, exploring mind of the individual human is the most valuable thing in the world. And this I would fight for: the freedom of the mind to take any direction it wishes, undirected. And this I must fight against: any idea, religion, or government which limits or destroys the individual. This is what I am and what I am about. I can understand why a system built on a pattern must try to destroy the free mind, for this is one thing which can by inspection destroy such a system. Surely I can understand this, and I hate it and I will fight against it to preserve the one thing that separates us from the uncreative beasts. If the glory can be killed, we are lost." ~John Steinbeck

They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft where we are hard, and cynical where we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. "Writing, at its best, is a lonely life. Organizations for writers palliate the writer's loneliness but I doubt if they improve his writing. He grows in public stature as he sheds his loneliness and often his work deteriorates. For he does his work alone and if he is a good enough writer he must face eternity, or the lack of it, each day. For a true writer each book should be a new beginning where he tries again for something that is beyond attainment. He should always try for something that has never been done or that others have tried and failed. Then sometimes, with great luck, he will succeed." ~Ernest Hemingway, Nobel laureate speech

You can try to silence TP or Sass, but someone will always step in, and defend this government, or release damning info about LP's puppets." ~Krizette Laureta Chu, March 3, 2017

"You have nothing on our endurance, our passion is a fire that blazes and consumes us. Your name calling is nothing but a pathetic gust of wind that only serves to fan the flames of our nationalism." ~Krizette Laureta Chu on PRRD's haters, June 29, 2017

Diego Franco - make a difference

"Leaders lead, builders build but volunteers work for free to make things happen and thus MAKE A DIFFERENCE. ..." ~Diego Franco, 6 January 2017

Van Wilder

"Worrying is like a rocking chair: It gives you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere." ~Van Wilder

Darwin Cañete Quotes

"A lawyer boasting about the ability to debate is like a sprinter boasting he could walk." ~Darwin Cañete

"Critics complain about the cure but stay silent on the sickness." ~Darwin Cañete

"Far and above his authority as president, are the personal ties the president has with the stakeholders in Mindanao. Most analysts miss the fact that various factions can rely on the president's word of honor. He places his word and will over and above the limitations of his office. That is leadership." ~Darwin Canete,

"Freedom of speech is a defense against the government. It is not an immunity from the consequences of that speech from people you offend." ~Darwin Cañete

"I always believed that the reason why big media hates Duterte is that his win empirically proved that buying political advertisements and currying favorable coverage from their oligarch owners for purposes of election no longer matters. They stand revealed to be a big waste. That is why Duterte is a threat. Not EJK. Not the war on drugs. Duterte represents the growing irrelevance of big media and the degraded ability of oligarchs to dictate on the national agenda." ~Darwin Cañete, April 2, 2017

"I believe it is also our duty as government officials to express support for the democratically elected president of our country. And to defend him as head of state." ~Darwin Cañete, October 4, 2017

"I consider the opposition my moral compass. Their opposite is always right." ~Darwin Cañete

"I wake up every morning expecting the world to be cruel and unfair. " ~Darwin Cañete

"Is refusing to renew the franchise of ABS CBN an abridgement of freedom of speech? No. The personnel of ABS CBN can still write and speak freely. You have to distinguish between ABS CBN itself as a juridical person and the persons who work for it. As far as I know, the live persons are not stopped from speaking their minds. Remember THAT WE OWN, collectively as a Republic, the frequency and airwaves that ABS CBN uses to spew its intrigues towards the duly elected government. They make money off what we own. We should not be held hostage by the machinations of oligarchs through their stranglehold of mass media." ~Darwin Cañete, April 28, 2017

"Let's be candid. Both China and the Middle East are impressed with strength. FVP dealing with these ancient and powerful cultures would have been comedic. We are lucky that PRRD is the one dealing with them and not some brainless pa-cute social climber." ~Darwin Cañete, April 16, 2017

"Sa manlulupig di ka pasisiil."
'Never shall invaders trample thy sacred shores.'
That is our anthem. No foreign court should ever be given the power to tell us what to do in our own country. That is an absolute fucking (sic) non-negotiable principle for any true patriot. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a traitor." ~Darwin Cañete, March 18, 2018

"Supporting the duly constituted government is our fundamental duty to the Republic and the Constitution." ~Darwin Cañete, April 1, 2017

"The best trial lawyers I ever saw were not debaters. They were readers. They were questioners. They were writers. They did not rely on tricks of language but on depth of knowledge on the issues they were litigating." ~Darwin Cañete

"The Opposition cannot come up with alternatives to PRRD's solutions because there is none that is expedient, addresses the problem, and based on realistic options. They are stuck in the fantasy that motherhood statements are enough. Deep down, they want to be the ones to take the same path, but lacked the will and spine to embrace it. The Opposition at heart, are cowards. They are unable to face the fact that the price needed to fix this country is to cross through an ocean of blood and sacrifice." ~Darwin Cañete, June 4, 2019

"The price of admission in democracy is citizenship. One of the responsibilities of citizenship is paying correct taxes." ~Darwin Cañete

"Think of Duterte as Durian. Strong aroma, a prickly fruit...but damn, a taste of heaven." ~Darwin Canete, 7 April 2016

"You cannot buy our politicians. But they rent surprisingly cheap." ~Darwin Cañete

"You know the worst fear of the yellows is? That President Duterte will prove that you can run a government without the pomp, the frills and the pablum of superficial appearances and ceremony.....that from now on, the humble, straight talking man without the backing of a transactional oligarchy WILL henceforth be...the standard by which his successors will be measured." ~Darwin Cañete

"You do not confuse rigid orthodoxy as foreign policy. Duterte has ONE CENTRAL FOREIGN POLICY...the welfare, safety and security of our islands and its people. Any day that we are not at odds with a foreign power and that our citizens are not discriminated against for being Filipinos is a triumph of that policy. If you think that this is incoherence, confusion or absence of foreign policy because it does not conform to a pro-American orthodoxy, then you're even more of an idiot than i thought." ~Darwin Cañete, April 9, 2017

Jojo A. Robles Quotes

"I haven't switched sides. I just found new allies." ~Jojo A. Robles, FB

"It’s one thing for desperate politicians to attempt to conscript children in their anti-government protest actions because they can’t seem to convince any adults to join their cause anymore. It’s quite another when the administrators of the schools that these children attend, the people who have been entrusted with the care and education of very young, impressionable minds, allow this shameless and dangerous partisan politicking—while not fully informing the parents that their kids have been enlisted in such efforts." ~Jojo A. Robles, July 2017

"You may not like Duterte, but you have to admire his audacity. I’ve never seen any Philippine president who would go to the daring lengths that Duterte has to expose the hypocrisy of the Americans—and that makes me extremely proud." ~Jojo A. Robles, Manila Standard, July 26, 2017

"You want to mourn for something real? Don't mourn for your prospective and imagined loss of rights and liberties.
Mourn for those soldiers who have lost their lives defending you from terrorism. Thank them for their ultimate sacrifice so you don't have to live under the caliphate." ~Jojo A. Robles, 1 June 2017

Rona Berg - a little powder

“What makes us truly beautiful is born well below the surface: a gleam in our eye, an ear-to-ear grin, a bounce in our step. But sometimes a little powder doesn't hurt.” ~Rona Berg

Guy Gavriel Kay - paths

"There are no wrong turnings. Only paths we had not known we were meant to walk." ~Guy Gavriel Kay
