"Seven times throughout the Psalms we read about taking refuge in the shadow of God’s wings. In the New Testament, Jesus wept over Jerusalem, wishing that He could protect the people the same way a hen gathers her brood under His wings.
A bird’s wings protect its young from predators - covering and camouflaging them until danger has passed. These feathery shields also serve as a shade from the sun and a warm haven from storms.
As children of God, we can take similar sanctuary under His wings. In times of grief and despair, our heavenly Father is tangibly present - a retreat for the beaten and weary.
