Rafael Alunan III Quotes

"Democracy demands maturity and responsible citizenship." ~Rafael Alunan III, September 20

"For the sake of democracy, transparency and national transformation, the PRRD administration must continue along its torturous path but, at the same time, listen to voices of reason, prudence and circumspection within its ranks and from the general audience. It must separate legitimate critics who aim to make things right from the wolves in sheep's clothing." ~Rafael Alunan III, 8 January 2017 (Freedom of Information)

"I truly believe that a loving home, a healthy working environment, vibrant personal relationships, service oriented vocations and deeply seated values contribute to any person's feeling of self-worth and confidence to live through tough and lonely times and emerge all the more resilient." ~Rafael Alunan III

"If we had block voting we won't have division at the top. Let's cure the problem when we get to charter change." ~Rafael Alunan III, 7 January 2017

"I'm convinced that there's a small group of evil people, rich and powerful beyond belief, who fan the flames of discord to precisely divide and conquer humanity to sustain their hold on the world. They are not human by any yardstick. They are inhuman." ~Rafael Alunan III, May 31, 2017

"In the Vietnam era, the code words "broken arrow" was a call for close air support by all available forces for a military unit on the ground in grave danger of being overrun and destroyed by the enemy. ...
In our world in moral crisis, where wrong prevails over right, where evil dominates the good, where lies overwhelm the truth, where people want out of their trap, it's time to seek divine intervention....
It's time to call out "broken arrow, broken arrow" for the legion of angels to swoop in and cleanse our world." ~Rafael Alunan III, January 17, 201 on BROKEN ARROW

"..... let the information light up those in the shadows for the world to see, stop their conspiracy and for the rule of law to take its course." ~Rafael Alunan III on Freedom of Information, 8 January 2017

"Think before you speak. The female brain works on a different wavelength!" ~Rafael Alunan III

"Twisting truth to hide hidden agenda" ~Rafael Alunan III on De Lima

"We won't beat drugs if we keep saying we can't. Defeatism is like aiding and abetting this deadly trade. We will beat drugs if both the government and society come together to extinguish it by addressing the supply and demand ends of the business equation. ............. Government addresses supply, society addresses demand. Government in the exercise of good governance; society in the exercise of responsible citizenship. It's called "whole-of-nation" approach with unity of purpose to save our children's future." ~Rafael Alunan III, 11 January 2017

"When politics continually gets in the way of nation-building - of growing the economy; of developing our ethics, knowledge and skills; of uniting the nation; of harmonizing our diverse cultures - whenever a political solution is applied to every problem that has nothing to do with politics - that only means we keep repeating the same stupid mistake. That makes us a stupid race. To save us from ourselves, we need to classify stupidity as a heinous crime." ~Rafael Alunan III, May 30, 2017

"When two sides rally around a common goal, the human spirit takes over and miracles happen." ~Rafael Alunan III, 26 July 2017

"When we listen to PRRD today in his 2nd SONA, sit back and reflect on the idea that what he's experienced in his first year has to do with CHANGE…with PAGBABAGO…for a better Philippines. The resistance is widespread, foreign and domestic, and it's deadly. They're out to get him and Marawi is part of that regime change playbook. As enlightenment unravels in your mind, ask yourself: am I part of the problem or part of the solution?....... ISIS et al or the "whole-of-terror" network including their tactical ally, the NPA, has been unleashed against PRRD and, in effect, against a largely unsuspecting Philippine society. While it may seem obvious to all that we're up against extremism, other questions to ask are: Who's behind that network and what do they really want from PRRD? Whose ISIS? Whose NPA? Do these comments make sense to you; do they resonate?~ Rafael Alunan III, July 24, 2017

"When your own constituency and stakeholders ask you to resign for the sake of the institution's integrity and survival, what other recourse is there? That would be the honorable way out." ~Rafael Alunan III (March 12, 2018)

Quotes Extracted from the blog: "I Was Traumatised by A Boob Leach", July 16, 2016
Getting off the beaten track allowed me to see the heart of some of Myanmar, and what a beautiful heart it has. It was the most worthwhile experience.

In a world of travelling I found a home.

At a point where I was wondering if I was in the wrong my life was overshadowed by kindness and love, and I’ll take that mango through life with me. (Not the actual mango- it would probably go mouldy.)

The place itself was stunning. Beautiful doesn’t come close. Doesn’t even touch it. They rely only on the food they grow in the country, which on the one hand was annoying because the only fruits are seasonal (no strawberries for me) but on the other hand was amazing because everything, I mean everything was grown and used with in a 5 mile radius. The fish was caught that day in the river, the tomatoes were picked that day, spices like ginger, garlic were grown locally and I left feeling fresh and healthy. (On Myanmar)

I think of who I was at 17 and I see every barrier, every obstacle and every bit of pain I’ve overcome and I’m amazed at how much I’ve achieved. I’m proud. There really is no greater physical and emotional journey than making a decision to travel, for a huge period of time, on your own. There is nothing more challenging, there is also nothing more rewarding. I’ve now decided that I have done everything and learnt everything I could have these last 9 months.

"...but our very openness and generosity and tolerance can be used against us, to demean us, to mock us, to spite us and in fact, even to harm us and to make us look small in front of the world. "~Jyothi Menon

"I truly feel that our hope is in our youth and our children. They are innocent enough not to be touched by the shortcomings of their parents and would decidedly be a greater person than what their parents were. Our children are far wiser than what we think." ~Jyothi Menon

"If we let children be, they will assuredly turn out to be truly our parents in every way- teaching us, leading us into a more open space than we have known and helping our growth too and showing that they come from a far mature place than we ever will." ~Jyothi Menon

"Misplaced passion for a disastrous cause is the greatest mistake of all." ~Jyothi Menon

"One of the few things (maybe the only thing) in the world that can bring down the ego of an arrogant woman is a cockroach." ~Jyoti Menon

"We always think in terms of children making their parents proud. We always blame the faults of children on their parents. What about the faults of parents? On whom do we blame them- the children?" ~Jyothi Menon

EXCERPTS from GARTH Trilogy

"And Susannah thought, 'when love comes from some unearthly place, when it comes from a place where forces unseen bring two people together, it has an unstoppable force, stronger than anything that can be seen or touched, stronger than our mortal shells, the kind of love that transcends matter and time, this is our love.'" ~Some Unearthly Place, 29 May 2016 (GARTH)

"In the days when his flesh had burned with pain, she had cared for him with such genuine devotion he had been moved by her and from this his love had grown. Now, each night when she gently massaged lotion into his back and sang with a voice so sweet he felt sure it came from God himself, he was full of adoration for her. He recognised the bond they now shared, a bond forged from the love and tenderness of a woman who would not be beaten down by circumstance." ~Forged from love and tenderness, 22 May 2016 (GARTH)

“I knew that others had faced the noose for crimes less than this. I’d always heard talk of God and the hereafter. I don’t think I am scared of death. I didn’t think so at the time. I thought if I am to die and meet my God and if He is merciful He would not judge me harshly. If He was all knowing as they preached, then He we would know I only took what was fair. No, it was not death, it is not death I fear Ed, it is having this life taken from me.” ~It is not death I fear, May 18, 2016 (GARTH)

"Susannah marvelled at them, they were creatures of the sunlight. They wore skin as gold as honey and grew taller and stronger than would have been allowed by the fetid air and lack of food in London. They were blessed as any children could be. They frolicked in the open air, on a spot on the planet that tilted at just the right angle to the sun, delivering to them a temperate climate, free of the bitter cold of the place from where Susannah had come. There was so much joy in watching their happiness; in those moments, there was nothing that could bring her greater delight." ~Creatures of the Sun, 15 May 2016 (Of Angels and Eagles)

Lance Secretan - power

"The power of a compelling cause rests in the soul of its Creator, because a cause springs from the soul. It is a spiritual statement from one soul that cannot be the result of many. It comes from a deep place of knowing, some conviction that a richly imagined future could in some way, dramatically and positively, change the world." ~Lance Secretan, author “Inspirational Leadership”
