Fidel Castro Quotes

"There is often talk of human rights, but it is also necessary to talk of the rights of humanity. Why should some people walk barefoot, so that others can travel in luxurious cars? Why should some live for thirty-five years, so that others can live for seventy years? Why should some be miserably poor, so that others can be hugely rich? I speak on behalf of the children in the world who do not have a piece of bread. I speak on the behalf of the sick who have no medicine, of those whose rights to life and human dignity have been denied." ~Fidel Castro's message to the UN General Assembly, 1979

But if you're patient, and you hold still, well maybe, just maybe, it'll come to you." ~Leonard Church

"Life is not about making an effort to grow. We have it wrong. Life is always in motion. Change is a constant. And so we change, always. We change either by chance or by choice. Changing by chance is like a boat without a rudder being tossed about the waves. By choice is pointing yourself in a direction and allowing the flow of life to move you. Bhavana Nissima Quotes

"It was the commonest of conversations. Nothing harsh was said. Nor anything sad or dramatic. And yet a relationship that had never begun, died. A sentence left incomplete before the paragraph was born. A bridge project shelved. Why do I grieve so?" ~Bhavana Nissima

"Some catch fire on first strike and light a candle or lamp. Some catch fire on second or third strike. Few catch fire but are blown out by wind before they can light a candle. Some cannot light because the wick is damp or there is no oil or it is way too burnt out. In a quiet room, with candles closely stacked together, couple of matchsticks manage to light several of them. And then there is this one. You strike her repeatedly but no fire. Either because the sides have worn out or her edges have been blunted or your hands were wet. The more you strike, the more the edges peel off and she wilts. You fling her away saying “Poor quality matchstick.” Was she?" ~Bhavana Nissima, FB
"Sometimes floodwaters enter our homes, sometimes they enter our lives, soaking, wiping all that we take for granted—our social beliefs, our skillsets, our place in hierarchy of things, our access to resources, our relationships, everything. We are forced to evacuate structures we called home — that which IS and WILL BE— and find ourselves in the relief camps of life. Here we sit stunned by loss, with uncertain days and bewildering tomorrows, at the mercy of strangers and systems beyond our control. Here we sit as refugees from hope, haunted by a yearning for better days.

Here we discover the other side of the world, that which always was. Like the shadow of silence between our words -- emptied of meaning, emptied of intention.

Only some of us get to return home. For others, we have to learn the art of making sea our home." ~Bhavana Nissima

"Social media has radically changed the way mass communication is now played, especially in the formation of opinion and points of view. Most importantly it has actually empowered the ordinary citizen himself into becoming an instant newsmaker, or a journalist in the broadest sense. "When two sides rally around a common goal, the human spirit takes over and miracles happen." ~Rafael Alunan III, 26 July 2017

"When we listen to PRRD today in his 2nd SONA, sit back and reflect on the idea that what he's experienced in his first year has to do with CHANGE…with PAGBABAGO…for a better Philippines. The resistance is widespread, foreign and domestic, and it's deadly. They're out to get him and Marawi is part of that regime change playbook. As enlightenment unravels in your mind, ask yourself: am I part of the problem or part of the solution?....... ISIS et al or the "whole-of-terror" network including their tactical ally, the NPA, has been unleashed against PRRD and, in effect, against a largely unsuspecting Philippine society. While it may seem obvious to all that we're up against extremism, other questions to ask are: Who's behind that network and what do they really want from PRRD? Whose ISIS? Whose NPA? Do these comments make sense to you; do they resonate?~ Rafael Alunan III, July 24, 2017

"I’m just grateful I got to be there when the bus was free and children said hello." ~Merryn Knowles on Myanmar tour, The Motorbike and The Hospital blog, June 2, 2016

"You don’t have to be a pharmacist to understand the basics of common sense. When somebody with no common sense is baffled by someone with less common sense than you, it’s a problem." ~Merryn Knowles

Quotes Extracted from the blog: "I Was Traumatised by A Boob Leach", July 16, 2016
Getting off the beaten track allowed me to see the heart of some of Myanmar, and what a beautiful heart it has. It was the most worthwhile experience.

In a world of travelling I found a home.

At a point where I was wondering if I was in the wrong my life was overshadowed by kindness and love, and I’ll take that mango through life with me. (Not the actual mango- it would probably go mouldy.)

The place itself was stunning. Beautiful doesn’t come close. Doesn’t even touch it. They rely only on the food they grow in the country, which on the one hand was annoying because the only fruits are seasonal (no strawberries for me) but on the other hand was amazing because everything, I mean everything was grown and used with in a 5 mile radius. The fish was caught that day in the river, the tomatoes were picked that day, spices like ginger, garlic were grown locally and I left feeling fresh and healthy. (On Myanmar)

I think of who I was at 17 and I see every barrier, every obstacle and every bit of pain I’ve overcome and I’m amazed at how much I’ve achieved. I’m proud. There really is no greater physical and emotional journey than making a decision to travel, for a huge period of time, on your own. There is nothing more challenging, there is also nothing more rewarding. I’ve now decided that I have done everything and learnt everything I could have these last 9 months.
